We've had some help...
We want to thank all the people who backed us, two complete novice documentary-makers, to make The Thread. You believed in our vision and for that we will be forever grateful.
Neil Balnaves AO, The Balnaves Foundation
Neil consolidated and steered the Southern Star Media Group from its beginnings as an animation studio to a multi-faceted entertainment company. In September 1996 he successfully floated the company on the Australian Stock Exchange. Southern Star is now Australia's largest independent television production and distribution group.
John Kearny QC AM
We wondered how far the building strategy could take us. The law library at Bond Uni is named after Dr. John Kearny QC AM and his wife, Alison. Although we sadly never had the chance to meet John before his passing, we were touched to have him support us. We were told he valued enterprise and innovation - values we've tried to live up with this project.
Trevor Rowe AO, Rothschild Foundation Australia
Trevor set-up the investment bank, Salomon Brothers, in Australia and is a finance veteran of the Australian business industry. He also was the Chancellor of Bond University while Hugh and Jack studied there.
Peter Ivany AM, Ivany Investment Group
The former CEO of Hoyts Cinemas, Peter is currently executive chairman of his own diversified investment company, Ivany Investment Group. He supports a wide range of philanthropic endeavours serving as Chairman of the National Institute of Dramatic Arts Foundation Trust and The Advisory Council for the Sydney Film Festival. Previously Peter was Chairman of the Australian Film, Television and Radio School.
Documentary Australia Foundation
After realising that we needed an auspice fund to accept donations, and being rejected by the Australian Cultural Fund for "not being true members of the Australian Arts Industry" (on ya' guys), the Documentary Australia Foundation took us under their wing. It's Australia's only independent, non-profit initiative bringing philanthropists and filmmakers together to create social change.
The Special Group
Much to our surprise, our efforts in Microsoft Powerpoint and Word to create some semblance of cohesive design aesthetic fell flat on its face. Thankfully the amazing team at the Special Group in Sydney got behind us and came up with all the branding assets for the documentary and helped us weave our story visually through the animations.
Hoping to build an army of crowd-funding support over the next few weeks to steer this ship home.
